FAQ’s
General Questions
Q: What got you interested in wildlife photography?
A: Ever since I was a child, I’ve always been fascinated by the natural world. The allure of capturing fleeting moments with wild animals in their natural habitats was too strong to resist. This passion drove me to pick up my first camera and head out into the wild, and I’ve never looked back since.
Q: What equipment do you use?
A: My gear includes a Nikon z50 and 2x Nikon D3300, a selection of lenses ranging from wide-angle to telephoto, a sturdy tripod, and various accessories like memory cards and cleaning kits. The choice of equipment can vary depending on the subject and location.
Q: Do you offer photography workshops or tours?
A: Not currently but I’m always happy to talk about your experiences and images. So please use the form above for a chat.
Q: What’s your number one tip for aspiring wildlife photographers?
A: Patience is key. Wildlife photography often involves waiting for long periods to get that perfect shot. Animals are unpredictable, and it’s essential to give them the space and time they need to reveal themselves.
Q: How do you approach animals without disturbing them?
A: The welfare of the animals is my utmost priority. I always maintain a safe and respectful distance, using long lenses to capture my subjects. I also invest time in studying animal behavior to understand how to minimise my impact.
Q: What are some basic settings to start with for wildlife photography?
A: A good starting point might be to set your camera to aperture-priority mode (A/Av), with an aperture of around f/5.6 to f/8, and ISO set to auto. However, settings can vary greatly depending on lighting conditions, the subject, and what you are trying to achieve with your photograph. You can go wrong with setting you camera to a base of 1/1000s, F5.6 AND Auto ISO.
Q: What are the ethical guidelines you follow?
A: My primary rule is to never harm or stress the animals or their habitat. This involves maintaining a safe distance and respecting restricted areas. Sometimes you can make an unconscious/unintentional mistake like flushing birds however over time you’ll learn more and more about how to watch animals from a safe (for them) distance. It’s also important to share our experience with others so they don’t make the same mistakes.
Q: Do you sell prints of your work?
A: Yes, upon request at the moment.
Q: How can I stay updated on your latest work?
A: The best way to stay updated is by visiting my website and following me on social media.
